The hardest part of real estate usually isn’t the house. It’s knowing what to do next.

I’m Amy Malec, a REALTOR® with Edina Realty, licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I help buyers, sellers, downsizing homeowners and families navigate some of life’s biggest home decisions throughout Forest Lake, Chisago County, the Twin Cities north metro and western Wisconsin.

Before real estate, I spent more than 20 years in corporate sales. I learned a lot during those years, but I also learned exactly what kind of business I wanted to build someday: one where honesty matters, people come before transactions, and doing the right thing is never negotiable.

My approach to real estate is pretty simple. I listen first.

Every home has a story, and so does every person making a move. You might be buying your first home, selling a lake home, building new construction, looking for one-level living, helping a parent downsize, or simply wondering whether now is the right time to make a change. My job isn’t to decide what you should do. It’s to make sure you understand your options, answer the questions you didn’t know you needed to ask, and give you the information and guidance to make the decision that’s right for you.

I have a particular passion for helping older adults and their families plan what comes next. That passion grew from personal experience helping care for a family member with dementia who wanted to remain in her home. I saw firsthand how quickly decisions involving a longtime home, care, finances and family can become overwhelming, especially when no plan is in place.

It’s why I believe so strongly in planning before life makes the decision for you.

Sometimes the right answer is selling. Sometimes it’s downsizing or moving closer to family. Sometimes it’s exploring senior living or finding a home that better fits the next stage of life. And sometimes, after looking at all the options, the best decision is to stay exactly where you are.

I’m okay with that answer, too.

When I do represent a client, I go all in. I’m known for strong communication, creative marketing, thinking outside the box and doing what I say I’m going to do. I don’t believe putting a sign in the yard and waiting is a marketing strategy, and I don’t believe clients should ever be left wondering what their REALTOR® is doing or when they’ll hear from them again.

Most importantly, I want the people I work with to feel heard, respected and never judged. Real estate can involve incredibly personal circumstances, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.

At the end of the day, I get to help people for a living. That’s the part of real estate I love most.
